Mark - A brand identity that makes space for boys to be heard
After ten years of supporting young women across Ireland, Waterford-based charity The Shona Project launched Mark in 2026. The new charity gives boys across Ireland space to talk about what matters to them and a chance to shape conversations about masculinity from their own perspective.
Having worked with The Shona Project on several projects, we were delighted to work alongside their team to build Mark’s brand identity from the ground up.
Revisiting the familiar
We brought together retro and contemporary design, drawing on familiar visual archetypes and reworking them for boys growing up in Ireland today. That balance echoed the work Mark was setting out to do. Ideas about masculinity are already part of boys’ lives. Mark gives them space to look at those ideas again and decide what they mean to them.
Designing for a two-way conversation
We considered how the identity could help Mark share important messages with boys and invite them to share their own experiences. It also had a role to play beyond those conversations. We looked at how Mark could communicate what it learns from boys, and show the public the impact of its work.
Launching Mark
We launched Mark at Salesforce’s Dublin headquarters in September 2026. The project received a warm response at the event, where The Shona Project introduced the new charity and its ambition to give boys a say in the conversations that affect them.
