  • Background

Located in the heart of Sandyford, Dublin, 'the annex' is a brand new destination for customers looking for high-end, considered and well crafted home and office products. With a collection of giftware, homeware, occasions, office and furniture products with a key focus on craftsmanship and design quality, 'the annex' desired a brand identity that truly mirrored its core values and offering.

    Objective

The primary objective was to encapsulate the brand's upscale nature, craftsmanship, and design aesthetics in a cohesive brand identity. The project involved designing a custom logo mark, custom iconography, and internal/external wayfinding systems for 'the annex.'

    Solution

Custom Logo Mark: PB Studio embarked on a deep dive into the ethos, and offerings of 'the annex.' We decided on a minimalist yet sophisticated logo mark that combines modern geometric shapes with a touch of classical design in the typography. This balance mirrors the store's harmonisation of contemporary design with age-old craftsmanship. The logo mark uses a subtle palette, chosen to evoke feelings of luxury and elegance, resonating perfectly with the target audience of 'the annex.'

Custom Iconography: PB Studio understood the importance of having consistent brand elements across different touch points. They crafted a set of custom icons that reflect the various product categories offered by 'the annex.' Each icon, while simple in appearance, carries the fine detailing that mimics the intricacy found in the store's products. These icons serve as a visual language, aiding customers in recognising and connecting with the brand's vast offerings quickly.

Internal/External Way finding Systems: Sandyford, being a bustling part of Dublin, required 'the annex' to have a clear and intuitive way finding system, both internally and externally. PB Studio's solution was two-fold:

External System: Leveraging the custom iconography and colour palette, the external way finding strikes a balance of seamlessly communicating the creative aspect of the brand while also doing it’s job in directing people to the desired areas. Signs were designed to be both functional (directing potential customers to the store) and promotional (highlighting specific product categories or offers). The signage's upscale design immediately communicates the premium nature of 'the annex,' attracting the right clientele.

Internal System: Inside the store, the way finding system takes on a more detailed approach. PB Studio integrated the brand's colour palette and typography to guide customers smoothly through the store's sections.

    Outcome

We loved working on this one and the branding project was a success. The Annex now stands on it’s own two feet as a location that offers exactly what’s it’s external and internal branding reflects…. Quality and attention to detail

    Conclusion

PB Studio's work for 'the annex' is a testament to the power of meticulous design thinking and its potential to transform a brand's identity. By understanding the client's needs, respecting the ethos of 'the annex,' and creating a cohesive brand identity, PB Studio elevated the store's stature, ensuring it stands out in the competitive landscape of Sandyford, Dublin.
